Nkundimana Joel Gakwaya, PhD

Nkundimana Joel Gakwaya, PhD, is a Lecturer in Information Technology at Asia-Pacific International University in Thailand. Dr. Gakwaya holds a PhD in Computer Science from Karpagam Academy of Higher Education and a Master of Computer Applications from Bharathiar University, both in India, and was previously an Associate Professor in Computer Applications at Lowry Memorial College & Group of Institutions in Bengaluru.

Research centres on big data analytics and machine learning, with a focus on healthcare data: improving data quality through feature selection and predicting disease risk with neural network and ensemble methods. Related interests include artificial neural networks, learning analytics and educational technology.

Dr. Gakwaya teaches and advises students in big data, business intelligence, database design and administration, human-computer interaction, front-end web development and application development, and supervises research with the African Centre of Excellence in Data Science at the University of Rwanda. Academic service includes serving as an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Convergence Research in Engineering, Technology & Management and reviewing for the 10th International Scholars' Conference.

Beyond the classroom, Dr. Gakwaya is the developer of UseWise, an offline-first personal finance application, published as an independent project under the name LectureMee Labs.
